Welcome to Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation

Established in 1999, Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation is a 501(c)3, nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and protect the art, history and natural resources of Hartford's historic Cedar Hill Cemetery. It is our intention to preserve these unique memorial grounds to ensure they will continue to welcome visitors for generations to come. The Foundation accomplishes its mission by:

Restoring and Preserving the Historic Architecture

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Northam Memorial Chapel and adjoining gateway buildings are among the few existing structures designed by noted 19th century architect, George Keller. Unused for nearly 50 years, the Chapel was restored in 1999 and now houses the Cemetery's administrative offices. The Foundation is committed to preserving Cedar Hill's historic architecture.

Preserving the Historic Memorial Artworks

The Cemetery's historic monuments are priceless artworks eternally memorializing the many lives of those residing at Hartford's historic Cedar Hill Cemetery. To preserve these beautiful and historic memorials, Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation has established a maintenance and preservation program to care for and preserve the memorial artworks. Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation's ongoing preventive maintenance and preservation program is carried out by trained staff and has served as a model for other rural cemetery programs. By preserving the monuments, the Foundation is protecting these memorials for future generations.

Protecting the Natural Resources

Cedar Hill Cemetery serves as a sanctuary for a variety of wildlife. From chipmunks and squirrels to wild turkeys, white-tailed deer and turtles, there is always something to see. Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation is committed to protecting Cedar Hill's natural environment ensuring these animals and birds have a safe place to call home.

Caring for Trees and Plants

Cedar Hill's burial sections contain over 2,000 trees, including a number of rare specimens and state champions. Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation contributes to maintaining a varied inventory, providing on-going tree care, offering educational resources and enhancing the future development of this distinguished arboretum.
